September 3, 2018 – Philippians 2:9
Therefore, God elevated Him to the place of highest honor and gave Him the name above all other names, Philippians 2:9.
What makes the Name of Jesus so honorable? It is His attitude. Verses 3-4 give us a clue: Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves. Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too.
We enjoy finding how we measure up and these verses can be our ‘Attitude Self-Evaluation.’ Verses 6-8 tell us more of Jesus Christ and Who He is. Though He was God, He did not think of equality with God as something to cling to. Instead, He gave up His divine privileges; He took the humble position of a slave and was born as a human being. When He appeared in human form, He humbled himself in obedience to God and died a criminal’s death on a cross.
No matter what day it is, God is working us, giving us the desire and power to do what pleases Him.
We live in a country where winning for self is the game played. Yet, following Christ is losing ourselves in Him in every aspect of life. Every blade of grass, every flower that blooms, every star shining in the night sky give God the glory. How can we not bow at the name of Jesus, declare He is Lord, and give Him the glory?
Live clean, innocent lives as children of God, shining like bright lights in a world full of crooked and perverse people. Verse 15b.
…That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue declare that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Philippians 2:10-11.
