October 3, 2019 – Psalm 119:54-56

Your statutes have been my songs in the house of my sojourning. I remember Your Name in the night, O Lord, and keep your law. This blessing has fallen to me that I have kept Your Precepts. Psalm 119:54-56.

Singing a song tells of  joy in our hearts. Statutes means commandments to be obeyed. How often we do what is pleasing to us.  To ignore God’s laws and ways is to rebel against our Creator.

Which commandment is the most difficult to obey? “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”  Matthew 22:37-39.

Loving others when they don’t care about us, is the most difficult action there is. Who loves you more than any other being?  It is our Father God and His Son Jesus.  When we reflect God’s love to others even when they mistreat us, we are following God’s statute to love.

Jesus taught us,  This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.  Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.” John 15:12-13.  And Jesus did, He lay down His Life for us!

How should we live? Paul writes,  “walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which you have been called,  with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love…” Ephesians 4:1b – 2.

The Lord is my portion; I promise to keep Your words. I entreat Your favor with all my heart; be gracious to me according to Your promise. When I think on my ways, I turn my feet to Your testimonies; I hasten and do not delay to keep Your commandments. Psalm 119:57-60.
