October 15, 2015 – Acts 9:35

Acts9-35There was a believer in Joppa named Tabitha (which in Greek is Dorcas). She was always doing kind things for others and helping the poor. What a sweet lady. She made choices in life.  She chose to believe in Jesus and have faith in Him.  She chose to help others.  She sewed, gave and showed kindness to others because she had the spirit of Jesus in her.We are given various gifts by the Holy Spirit, when we chose to follow Jesus and His teaching, You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, mind and soul.  The second commandment is this — You shall love your neighbor as yourself.   When we have the gift of helping others, everyone is our neighbor.  The Holy Spirit helps us know who needs our help.  The Holy Spirit is the Nudger that speaks to us and nudges us to help and love our neighbor. Why and How we should help is found in the next verse from I Peter 4:11 — The How is with all the strength and energy that God supplies.  There is no ‘can’t’ when we are nudged by the Holy Spirit.  God will give us the strength and energy.  The Why is when we do this helping in the name of Jesus Christ, we bring glory to God.Look around you?  Does your Dad or Mom need help with cleaning, taking out the trash, or kitchen chores?  Or do you think they do everything for you?  Helping is a way of loving!  When we think of others instead of ourselves, we bring glory to God.Do you have a baby brother or sister?  There are many ways you can teach them what you know about Jesus.  There are things you know, they will need to know.  Show kindness and love by helping them with their clothes, their eating, washing their faces and hands.Dear friends, let us continue to love one another, for love comes from God. Anyone who loves is a child of God and knows God. I John 4:7Do you have the gift of helping others? Do it with all the strength and energy that God supplies. Then everything you do will bring glory to God through Jesus Christ. I Peter 4:11
