November 13, 2019 – John 6:45-48

It is written in the Prophets, ‘And they will all be taught by God.’  Everyone who has heard and learned from the Father comes to me, not that anyone has seen the Father except He who is from God; He has seen the Father. Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes has eternal life. I am the bread of life.  John 6:45-48.

From the time we are born, we hunger and thirst for something to satisfy us. Mother baked bread, and my Dad always desired the chewy end slice of the loaf of bread. My Grandmother baked Tweebak, in the low Dutch language, a yeast bread that pulled apart. The German name is Zwieback, a two-story roll.

Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst.  John 6:35.  There is a physical hunger and without food, we will die. There is a spiritual hunger, as well.  The only One who provides sustenance for this hunger is The Bread of Life, Jesus.  Is it by accident or by design when we desire something new to wear or have? It is a longing for Jesus.

He has made everything beautiful in its time. Also, He has put eternity into man’s heart, yet so that he cannot find out what God has done from the beginning to the end.  Ecclesiastes 3:11.  When was this done? For You formed my inward parts;  You knitted me together in my mother’s womb. Psalm 139:13.

He predestined us for adoption to Himself as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of His will.  Ephesians 1:5.

Your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness, and they died. This is the bread that comes down from heaven, so that one may eat of it and not die. I am the living bread that came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever.  John 6:49-51.
