May 2, 2016 – Psalm 1:1-2

Psalm1-1-2Oh, the joys of those who do not follow the advice of the wicked, or stand around with sinners, or join in with mockers. But they delight in the law of the Lord, meditating on it day and night. Psalm 1:1-2Delight is a lovely package of peace, joy and growing wisdom wrapped in a continuous ribbon of loving God.The one who stands alone on the solid rock of Faith in God is not swayed by the Evil One and the banding together of those who plot evil.  The guise of ‘common good’ is not good.  God is Good, All the time. Those who delight in the law of God are like trees, planted along the riverbank. They are watered by the living water of life.  They bring forth fruit, the Fruit of the Spirit, in its season.  The fruit that refreshes and sustains us:  Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Gentleness, Faithfulness and Self-Control. (Galatians 5:22)This fruit does not grow old or decay. Its leaves never wither.  But this fruit comes from the love of Jesus, when we love and follow Him.  Jesus, who is without sin, and is the blood sacrifice to cleanse us from our sin.  Jesus gives us life.  Joyce Kilmer wrote a poem, since put to music.

I think that I shall never see  – A poem lovely as a tree.  A tree whose hungry mouth is prest
Against the earth’s sweet flowing breast; A tree that looks at God all day, And lifts her leafy arms to pray.  The last two lines…read – Poems are made by fools like me, But only God can make a tree.

This poem is a picture to me of the created delighting in the law of the Lord, even as we are God’s Created.  Are we delighting in His Laws and His Ways? They are like trees planted along the riverbank, bearing fruit each season.  Their leaves never wither, and they prosper in all they do.  Psalm 1:3.
