July 7, 2015 – Psalm 147:4-5

Psalm147-4-5He determines the number of the stars; he gives to all of them their names. Great is our Lord, and abundant in power; his understanding is beyond measure. Psalm 147:4-5Have you ever been outside, when the stars twinkle bright?  It is so much fun to see each one.  When I was a young girl, I went to a school playground and began swinging at night when the stars were out.  I reached out one of my toes and pretended that I could touch a star.  I wondered what it would be like to tip-toe through the sky of stars.I didn’t know then that God made each star and how far away they were.  I didn’t know that God named each star, just as we have names — given to us by those who love us.  Can you imagine how God himself loves the twinkling of the stars?  Have you ever tried to count the stars?  There are too many!He used the idea of the large number of stars when he tried to tell Abraham how many off-spring (children) he would have.  This was when he promised land and how many Abraham and his offspring would have.  He believed God, although Abraham was a very old man then.  Sarah, his wife listened and heard this.  She was old, too, so she laughed.  In her mind, she said — “No way!”Since Abraham believed, it was counted to him as righteousness.  I want to be right, don’t you?  When I see stars in the sky, the first thing I think is, I believe God, I believe in God, I love God!Remember Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, your servants, to whom you swore by your own self, and said to them, ‘I will multiply your offspring as the stars of heaven, and all this land that I have promised I will give to your offspring, and they shall inherit it forever.’” Exodus:32:13
