July 19, 2016 – Matthew 6:33-34

Matthew6-33-34But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. “Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble. Matthew 6:33-34What is the first thing you do when  you wake up?  What is the first thing you think about?  When we are a little kid — we simply want to eat.  Feed our tummies so they don’t feel empty.  Or we want to dress quickly and begin moving, especially to the freedom of outdoors. One man said, First things first!  He thought to prioritize and do the most important thing first.  This is what Jesus taught – Seek first the Kingdom of God and His Righteousness… This is God’s priority for all of us – to proactively search for the Kingdom of God and His Righteousness.  When we were young, and getting ready to go to church one day, my little brother lost one of his shoes.  That became an instant priority.  The whole family searched for my little brother’s shoe.  It was the only shoe he had. He couldn’t go to church with just one shoe on.This kind of searching is also for a whole family when we search for God’s righteousness and learn about the forgiveness of Jesus.  We don’t have far to look…we simply open His Holy Word and read.  The rest of that passage reads not to be worried and concerned about tomorrow.  We have enough to take care of today.  God is already working on our tomorrow.  Why is God taking care of tomorrow for us?  If you don’t remember anything else, remember this:  He loved us first!  So we can relax in life and simply love.  Love one another and love Jesus.  For this is God’s will for us.  It is His Righteousness — to love!We love because he first loved us.
