January 30, 2018 – Mark 4:35-38

As evening came, Jesus said to his disciples, “Let’s cross to the other side of the lake.” So they took Jesus in the boat and started out, leaving the crowds behind (although other boats followed). But soon a fierce storm came up. High waves were breaking into the boat, and it began to fill with water. Jesus was sleeping at the back of the boat with his head on a cushion. The disciples woke him up, shouting, “Teacher, don’t you care that we’re going to drown?” Mark 4:35-38.

We have storms that break around us, fierce winds rocking our lives, threatening to capsize our us while we sleep.  How big is our faith?  Will it weather any storm?  Who do we go to for help to calm the wind and the waves of our personal storm?  Facebook, or a friend, or reading a help book? Or perhaps we fall into the sea of noise of movies or music, thinking this will help us escape the storm?

The disciples went to Jesus! How could he sleep when they feared drowning? The Jesus created the wind and waves spoke three words…Silence! Be Still!

Then Jesus asked two questions. Why are you afraid? Do you still have no faith?  With Faith in Jesus, there is no Fear in our lives!

Without Jesus, our fear grows! With Jesus in our lives to walk with us, we can weather any storm as it comes!

Psalm 4:8 – In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, O Lord, will keep me safe.

When Jesus woke up, he rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Silence! Be still!” Suddenly the wind stopped, and there was a great calm. Then he asked them, “Why are you afraid? Do you still have no faith?” Mark 4:39-40
