December 7, 2015 – John 8:12

John8-12bAgain Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” John 8:12

Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” John 8:12 What is light, how fast does light travel? Why does light catch our attention?  Light is illumination.  The synonyms for illumination are knowledge, revelation, insight and wisdom.  Now look at the same verse — and light has new depth and meaning for us.  I am revelation, I am wisdom. Following, obeying and loving Jesus gives us insight into who God is.  Loving impartially, giving generously, forgiving always is wisdom. Another aspect of light is the speed.  Light travels faster than any other substance or man-made vehicle. 670,616,629 mph is the speed of light.  Light years are the measure of the distances in space.  Our Milky Way Galaxy, our home, contains more than 400 billion stars – according to the estimate by astronomers.  God promised Abraham that his descendants will be as many as the stars in sky. So often I am captivated by the phrase, in the twinkling of an eye… Behold! I tell you a mystery. We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed,  in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we shall be changed. I Corinthians 15:51-52 This is how quickly Jesus will come back to earth again. No one will know the day or the hour. The evil on earth will not put out the Light of Jesus.  He illuminates our Forever.John 1:9-13 gives us more information about the Light. The true light, which gives light to everyone, was coming into the world.  He was in the world, and the world was made through him, yet the world did not know him.  He came to his own, and his own people did not receive him.  But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God,  who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God. If we want to abide in the Light forever – and not in the darkness of the world – we gladly accept Jesus alone! The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. John 1:5
