August 23, 2016 – 2 Corinthians 6:6
We prove ourselves by our purity, our understanding, our patience, our kindness, by the Holy Spirit within us, and by our sincere love. 2 Corinthians 6:6In a world that champions impatience, anger and ugly behaviors, it is rare to find someone who will not use words that take the Lord’s Name in Vain, someone who is kind, and refuses to become impatient and angry. The Holy Spirit lives in this person. In Daniel 3, we learn about Shadrach, Meshack and Abednego, who lived in captivity with Daniel. These men would not bow before the 90 foot image of the king. The King ordered them to be placed into a fiery furnace. How did they respond?“We do not need to defend ourselves before you. If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God whom we serve is able to save us. He will rescue us from your power, Your Majesty. But even if he doesn’t, we want to make it clear to you, Your Majesty, that we will never serve your gods or worship the gold statue you have set up.” Daniel 3:16-18When the King checked on the three men in the furnace, this is what he said, “Look!” he shouted. “I see four men, unbound, walking around in the fire unharmed! And the fourth looks like a god!”We also have a 4th man walking with us in life, The Holy Spirit, who teaches us and makes us strong. It is not what people think of us, but what God thinks of us that counts. Especially as we take our last breath and enter the real world of Eternity. For we don’t live for ourselves or die for ourselves. If we live, it’s to honor the Lord. And if we die, it’s to honor the Lord. So whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord. Christ died and rose again for this very purpose—to be Lord both of the living and of the dead. Romans 14:7-9We serve God whether people honor us or despise us, whether they slander us or praise us. We are honest, but they call us impostors 2 Corinthians 6:8
