August 13, 2018 – Ecclesiastes 3:1-5

For everything, there is a season, a time for every activity under heaven. A time to be born and a time to die. A time to plant and a time to harvest. A time to kill and a time to heal. A time to tear down and a time to build up. A time to cry and a time to laugh. A time to grieve and a time to dance. A time to scatter stones and a time to gather stones. A time to embrace and a time to turn away. Ecclesiastes 3:1-5.

I wonder if anyone has made a study of which question is most asked in the world.  One question we hear often is, What time is it?  In our timed and scheduled world, we go from watching a sundial, to wind up clocks, to digital timepieces to ‘smart’ phones.  And we still ask, What time is it?

God, through the writer of Ecclesiastes, tells us there is a time for everything under the sun, even to enjoy the beautiful in its time. Because God planted eternity in our hearts, we want to know when eternity begins.  We watch as the seasons, hours, and minutes fly by. We don’t know the whole scope of God’s work – and we still ask, ‘What time is it?’

All glory to Him who alone is God, our Savior through Jesus Christ our Lord. All glory, majesty, power, and authority are his before all time, and in the present, and beyond all time! Amen. Jude 1:25.

A time to be quiet and a time to speak. A time to love and a time to hate. A time for war and a time for peace. Yet God has made everything beautiful for its own time. He has planted eternity in the human heart, but even so, people cannot see the whole scope of God’s work from beginning to end. Ecclesiastes 3:6-8, 10-11.
