August 17, 2017 – Psalm 42:1-2

As the deer longs for streams of water, so I long for you, O God. I thirst for God, the living God. When can I go and stand before him? Psalm 42:1-2.

All wild life searches for water.  In a desert, the oasis is a gathering place, a renewal area that sustains life.  When we thirst for water….we only satisfy our bodies, but not our hearts. This is what the Psalmist tells us.

We long for more than water, but we long for God-Truths that satisfy our spirits.  We know what it is like when our mouths become dry and need water.  It is the same with our spirits – we need the Living Water, as Jesus taught us.

John 4:11 – Jesus replied, “If you only knew the gift God has for you and who you are speaking to, you would ask me, and I would give you living water.”

The world and the things of this world cannot satisfy our longing for God.  Money cannot buy this living water that quenches our longing for God and His Goodness.  We want His Presence to surround us.  We want His Peace and Goodness to measure every part of our lives.

We are discouraged and sad – until we put our hope in God.  Then we praise him for answered prayer and our souls are not weary but refreshed, full of hope, and we praise Him. Even through the hard times when we feel alone, our Savior God walks beside us, and we praise Him.

As the deer panteth for the water, So my soul longeth after Thee. You alone are my heart’s desire and I long to worship Thee.

Why am I discouraged? Why is my heart so sad? I will put my hope in God! I will praise him again— my Savior and my God! Psalm 42:11.
