Truly Amazing Grace!

Often my heart overflows with wonder and amazement when I listen
to the praise songs that grip my heart and soul and remind me….the Truly Amazing Grace is in our reach.

This gift of grace teaches what love is.  Love is sacrifice, giving your life, your
very breath, to live for Him.  Our
example is how God gave up his only Son because He loves us so.  Jesus Christ became flesh and lived among us
over 2000 years ago.  He died a cruel
death and bore our sins on the cross.  He
was despised, rejected spit upon and scourged with a whip.  On the cross, He spoke the words, “Father, forgive them, for they know not what
they do.”  Luke 23:24

When the baptismal waters closed over my head, I have never
felt as free, as clean and as forgiven as I did at that moment.  I understood as an eight year old what the
words – ‘washed clean in the blood of Jesus Christ’ meant.
Too often I tried to do things in my own power and strength,
usually failing.  I had not learned how
to trust.  At the age of 83, I heard the
diagnosis of my husband, I knew my expectations for an easy rock-into-Heaven
was not to be.  Three years have passed…and
the challenges grow. I know that the trust and strength of my faith in Jesus is
my salvation.
Being the Child of God gives me hope, strength and joy of
knowing Him as His child.  I can be
secure in the One whose spoken word created the very world we live in.  His power and majesty I know through His
Great Love.
Without the blessing of my husband’s diagnosis, I would not
have begun to learn the true meaning of faith and trust moment by moment.  When the lyrics below flashed on the screen,
I knew.  The lyrics, the music spoke to
me.  Only in Him can I stand!
I
Stand
You stood before creation
Eternity in your hand
You spoke the earth into motion
My soul now to stand.
In the beginning was the Word,
and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.  He
was in the beginning with God.   All things were
made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made.  In him was life, and the life was
the light of men.  The light shines in the
darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
  And the
Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his
glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace
and truth

John
1:1-5, 14
You stood before my failure
And carried the cross for my shame
My sin weighed upon your shoulders
My soul now to stand.
Who
then will condemn us? No one—for Christ Jesus died for
us and was raised to life for us, and he is sitting in the place of honor at
God’s right hand, pleading for us.
Romans 8:34

“The
gospel is this: We are more sinful and flawed in ourselves than we ever dared
believe, yet at the very same time we are more loved and accepted in Jesus
Christ than we ever dared hope.”

Tim Keller

So what could I say?
And what could I do?
But offer this heart, Oh God
Completely to you.
For you are all children of God
through faith in Christ Jesus.  Galatians 3:26
So I’ll walk upon salvation
Your spirit alive in me
This life to declare your promise
My
soul now to stand.
For the grace of God has been revealed, bringing salvation to all
people.  And we are instructed to turn from godless
living and sinful pleasures. We should live in this evil world with wisdom,
righteousness, and devotion to God.
Titus 2: 11-12
I’ll
stand
With arms high and heart abandoned
In awe of the one who gave it all
I’ll
stand
My soul to you surrendered
All I am is yours.
I will
praise you, Lord, with all my
heart; I will tell of all the marvelous things you have done.
   I
will be filled with joy because of you. I will sing praises to your name,
O Most High.  Psalm 9:1-2
Everyone
who believes that Jesus is the Christ has become a child of God. And
everyone who loves the Father loves his children, too.  We
know we love God’s children if we love God and obey his commandments.

Loving God means keeping his commandments, and his commandments
are not burdensome. I John 5:1-3
