August 17, 2015 – Isaiah 9:6

Isaiah9-6For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Isaiah 9:6Isaiah lived 700 years before Jesus Christ, Son of God, was born.  Yet he wrote about the coming of the Christ Child.  This knowledge about the Baby Jesus came from God and entrusted to Isaiah.  Isaiah knew the ‘job description’ of Jesus.  Did he wonder about the words God gave him?  Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.  Did Isaiah wonder about the babe born to us?We live more than two thousand years after Christ Jesus was born.  Even the prophets who watched for the birth of the babe, did not recognize and honor this infant, born in a lowly stable.  Jesus was visited by the shepherds and wise men.Today Jesus is not known or ignored except by the poor people and wise men who believe in Him.  Jesus is more than a Good Teacher or a Prophet — He is our Lord and Savior.  He is the Good Shepherd, the Life, the Truth and the Way.  “And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.” Acts 4:11When we share the name of Jesus and bring the good news of Jesus, we will find ourselves on the mountain top of joy and hope and faith in Him.Beautiful upon the mountain top are the feet….a phrase I often wonder about.  Our hands and feet and the words of our mouths are used in teaching, proclaiming and living the Words of Jesus.  Yes, the ones who publish peace and bring the good news of Jesus.  When we pause in our day and give thanks… Our God Reigns. And what is the good news?  The voice of your watchmen—they lift up their voice; together they sing for joy; for eye to eye they see the return of the Lord to Zion.  Isaiah 52:8How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him who brings good news, who publishes peace, who brings good news of happiness, who publishes salvation, who says to Zion, “Your God reigns.” Isaiah 52:7
