September 1, 2015 – Luke 19:1-3
Jesus entered Jericho and made his way through the town. There was a man there named Zacchaeus. He was the chief tax collector in the region, and he had become very rich. He tried to get a look at Jesus, but he was too short to see over the crowd. Luke 19:1-3Zacchaeus may have been short, but he wanted to see the man, Jesus, who had come to town. What is Jesus like, he wondered. Zacchaeus did not have many friends, and did not expect Jesus to be his friend either. Tax collectors were not well-liked. But Zacchaeus couldn’t see Jesus. What do you do, when you can’t see? Exactly, that is what Zacchaeus did. He saw the sycamore tree, and clambered up the trunk so he could see. As Jesus drew near, He saw Zacchaeus in the tree. He knew Zacchaeus’ heart, how he needed a friend who loved him.Jesus knew his name, and called, “Zacchaeus, quick come down, I am coming to your house today!” Jesus likes it when we call to Him, pray to Him and praise Him. He wants to be our friend. But we must choose Him. Just like Jesus chose Zacchaeus! So he ran ahead and climbed a sycamore-fig tree beside the road, for Jesus was going to pass that way. When Jesus came by, he looked up at Zacchaeus and called him by name. “Zacchaeus!” he said. “Quick, come down! I must be a guest in your home today.” Zacchaeus quickly climbed down and took Jesus to his house in great excitement and joy. Luke 19:4-6. https://www.youtube.com /watch?v=Cz7BA5Jftbk the story.
