Reflections on “Do Every Thing in the Name of the Lord Jesus!” November 5, 2024
And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. Colossians 3:17.
If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ who is your life appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory. Colossians 3:1-4.
How often we set our minds and hearts on being comfortable and having fun in things that please us in the moment. Colossians 3:2 tells us where the One who created us has a different place to set our mind. Set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth. For you have died and your life is hidden with Christ in God. Colossians 3:2-3.
We are born anew in Christ Jesus. Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come. 2 Corinthians 5:17.
God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female, He created them. Genesis 1:27. God is without sin.
Indeed, Jesus told Thomas, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me. If you had known Me, you would have known My Father also; from now on you know Him and have seen Him.” John 14:6-7.
For you are a holy people to the Lord your God; the Lord your God has chosen you to be a people for His own possession out of all the peoples who are on the face of the earth. Deuteronomy 7:6.
But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God’s own possession, so that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light. I Peter 2:9.
Is there any place in the Bible that is clear about what we should do or value in our lives if we want eternal life? Therefore, consider the members of your earthly body as dead to immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and greed, which amounts to idolatry. For it is because of these things that the wrath of God will come upon the sons of disobedience, and in them you also once walked, when you were living in them. Colossians 3:5-7.
A list of evil ways follows: Anger, wrath, malice, slander, abusive speech, and not lying. Add this: Therefore, let us not judge one another anymore, rather determine this—not to put an obstacle or a stumbling block in a brother’s way. Romans 14:13.
You will make known to me the path of life; In Your presence is fullness of joy; In Your right hand, there are pleasures forever. Psalm 16:11.
In Colossians 3, Family Relations is addressed. Wives, be subject to your husbands as is fitting in the Lord. Husbands, love your wife. Children, be obedient to your parents, for this is well-pleasing to the Lord!
How do we find joy? We study these ways of pleasing the Creator!
So, as those who have been chosen of God, holy and beloved, put on a heart of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and Patience; bearing with one another, and forgiving each other, whoever has a complaint against anyone; just as the Lord forgave you, so also should you. Beyond all these things, put on love, which is the perfect bond of unity. Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body; and be thankful. Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you, with all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with thankfulness in your hearts to God. Whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through Him to God the Father. Colossians 3:12-17.
We are to ‘put on’ hearts that show facets of love. ‘Garments’ of love never need to be laundered or changed. The precepts of the Lord are right, rejoicing in the heart; The commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes. The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever; The judgments of the Lord are true; they are righteous altogether. They are more desirable than gold, yes, than much fine gold; Sweeter also than honey and the drippings of the honeycomb. Psalm 19:8-10. This chapter ends with a prayer!
Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart, Be acceptable in Your sight, O Lord, my rock and my Redeemer. Psalm 19:14.
The Psalm 119:33-35 gave me joy! Praising the Lord, listening to His Word, and pleading for Him to teach me, fills me with Joy.
Teach me, O Lord, the way of Your statutes, And I shall observe it to the end. Give me understanding, that I may observe Your law And keep it with all my heart. Make me walk in the path of Your commandments, For I delight in it. Psalm 119:33-35.
Let my lips utter praise, For You teach me Your statutes. Let my tongue sing of Your word, For all Your commandments are righteousness. Let Your hand be ready to help me, For I have chosen Your precepts. I long for Your salvation, O Lord, And Your law is my delight. Psalm 119:171-174.
