October 30, 2017 – Matthew 28:1-2

Early on Sunday morning, as the new day was dawning, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went out to visit the tomb. Suddenly there was a great earthquake! For an angel of the Lord came down from heaven, rolled aside the stone, and sat on it. Matthew 28:1-2

Is God dead? Is Jesus dead? Some men entertain this idea and deny Jesus Christ.  Jesus, crucified, had been shut in the tomb for three days.  Then the earthquake shook a world into the reality! Jesus lives!

The guards were told to guard the stone in case someone tried to steal the body of Jesus.  The two Marys went to the tomb and found the angel of the Lord sitting on the stone after rolling the stone away. The guards shook with fear when they saw the angel of the Lord and fell in a dead faint.

No one realized God Himself sent His angel to roll away the stone. When the tomb was opened, Jesus was raised from the dead.  When the stone was rolled away, an everlasting hope poured forth. The hope of forgiveness of sin brings us joy and peace each day when we follow Jesus.

Hallelujah, what a Savior! Jesus is the Light, the Truth, and the Way!

His face shone like lightning, and his clothing was as white as snow. The guards shook with fear when they saw him, and they fell into a dead faint. Matthew 28:3-4
