May 6, 2020 – James 1:16-18

Do not be deceived, my beloved brothers. Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change. Of his own will He brought us forth by the word of truth, that we should be a kind of first fruits of His creatures. James 1:16-18.

As Mother’s Day approaches, we long for the perfect gift to show our love.  Where can we find such a perfect gift?  Where there is no change or shadow?  Jesus gives the answer, “I am the way, the truth and the life!” (John 14:6). 

Jesus has given us the true gift of grace on the cross, and His resurrection from the dead because He loves us. How can we show we received this gift of Love?  By loving others by thoughtful listening. Anger shows selfishness and does not produce right living.

Listen to the Word of God, and in humility be Doers of the Word. Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ. Colossians 3:23-24.

Little children, you are from God and have overcome them, for He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.  1 John 4:4

 Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.  I have sworn an oath and confirmed it, to keep your righteous rules. Psalm 119:105-106.

Know this, my beloved brothers: let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger; for the anger of man does not produce the righteousness of God. Therefore put away all filthiness and rampant wickedness and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls. But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. James 1:19-22.
