July 3, 2018 – Matthew 7:24-27
“Anyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock. Though the rain comes in torrents and the floodwaters rise and the winds beat against that house, it won’t collapse because it is built on bedrock.” Matthew 7:24-25.
Did you ever hide from a storm? There are many kinds of storms. The storms seem to multiply as we become adults. We look for a place that is safe until the storm blows over.
Storms come to us in many ways. What may be a storm for one person is a challenge to conquer for another. A storm seemed to brew as a test in school or large homework assignment comes due. Later as an adult, finishing a project for work, or keeping a clean house for company. If I failed at something I looked for a hole to hide in, even if it is ‘pretend’.
Life is the same. When we build our houses, or our lives, on a rock, we are assured of safety. The Lord is my rock, my fortress, and my Savior; my God is my rock, in whom I find protection. He is my shield, the power that saves me, and my place of safety. Psalm 18:46.
Where can we hide when we are older? We need a safe place to hide from the storms of sickness, loss of a job, separation from loved ones, and other storms that cloud our lives. I wait quietly before God, for my victory comes from him. He alone is my rock and my salvation, my fortress where I will never be shaken. Psalm 62:1-2.
But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint. Isaiah 40:31.
“But anyone who hears my teaching and doesn’t obey it is foolish, like a person who builds a house on sand.” Matthew 7:26.
