Jesus, The Heart-Changer!
It was 2012, and my world would change. I wrote this poem, The Heart-Changer, not knowing how true the words were and to the extent, Jesus would change me. In those brief six years, my life became new. It began the day the doctor announced my husband’s diagnosis of dementia, and ended with the words, he will never get better.
Long ago, someone told me if you want to answer questions correctly in Sunday School, the answer is always Jesus. I laughed then, and now I agree, in Sunday School or not, in all of life—the answer is always Jesus, my Lord.
I pondered and learned the joy of belonging to Jesus through sharing scriptures and hymns with my husband. We talked about the joys of Heaven. We remembered and visited about our four children and their spouses, twelve grandchildren, and the joys of the visits we enjoyed.
The Author of all the best in our lives together came from belonging to Jesus, our Lord. Everywhere we looked we saw the blessing of belonging to Jesus. Without Him, our lives would have been bleak. The richness came from serving and loving others and trusting Jesus.
I read the poem and realize how blessed the gift of seeing Jesus in all the Creation about me is. From the beginning, Jesus is with God. John 1:1-3 – In the beginning the Word already existed. The Word was with God, and the Word was God. He existed in the beginning with God. God created everything through Him, and nothing was created except through Him.
What do I see in the Spring? I see the new growth, and in each green leaf, I see the love of Jesus. Each flower that blooms is a testimony to the love of Jesus. When the wind blows fiercely, pushing clouds in the sky, I see the power of my Jesus and Lord! In the eyes of each new baby, I see the innocence of someone who was created by God, the Father of Jesus.
I gaze into the darkened night sky and I see the twinkling stars God created long ago. I know God is near. Then I hear a sweet prayer for me from a dear Christian friend who loves Jesus and I know how Jesus loves me.
God the Father, the Great I Am, sent Jesus as a gift of grace for our salvation from sin and guilt. God sent His angels to announce His birth. Glory to God in highest heaven, and peace on earth to those with whom God is pleased. Luke 2:14. Is it any wonder I celebrate the birth of Jesus, His life, and His resurrection continually. For I know, Jesus loves me, the Bibles tells me so.
Often my praise to Jesus comes with tears and sometimes the praise is so filled with joy, my heart dances. Jeremiah 32:17-18— “O Sovereign Lord! You made the heavens and earth by your strong hand and powerful arm. Nothing is too hard for you! You show unfailing love to thousands, but you also bring the consequences of one generation’s sin upon the next. You are the great and powerful God, the Lord of Heavens Armies.”
Jesus gives us Hope, Love, Forgiveness, and Peace that the world does not understand. God’s Word is filled with assurance and love. No other writing can give us the greatest love story ever written.
John 14:23-29 – Jesus replied, “All who love me will do what I say. My Father will love them, and we will come and make our home with each of them. Anyone who doesn’t love me will not obey me. And remember, my words are not my own. What I am telling you is from the Father who sent me. I am telling you these things now while I am still with you. But when the Father sends the Advocate as my representative—that is, the Holy Spirit—he will teach you everything and will remind you of everything I have told you. “I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So, don’t be troubled or afraid. Remember what I told you: I am going away, but I will come back to you again. If you really loved me, you would be happy that I am going to the Father, who is greater than I am. I have told you these things before they happen so that when they do happen, you will believe.”
Jesus, the Heart Changer
Who makes the sun to rise?
It’s Jesus, Jesus, my Lord.
Who puts the clouds in the skies?
It’s Jesus, Jesus, my Lord.
Who brings me blessings untold?
It’s Jesus, Jesus, my Lord.
Who brings me hope continuing to unfold?
It’s Jesus, Jesus, my Lord.
Who hears me when I pray?
It’s Jesus, Jesus, my Lord.
Who walks beside me each day?
It’s Jesus, Jesus, my Lord.
Who died on the cross for my sin?
It’s Jesus, Jesus, my Lord.
And rose to live again?
It’s Jesus, Jesus, my Lord.
