February 28, 2017 – Judges 5:2-3

“Israel’s leaders took charge, and the people gladly followed. Praise the Lord! “Listen, you kings! Pay attention, you mighty rulers! For I will sing to the Lord. I will make music to the Lord, the God of Israel. Judges 5:2-3

What causes someone to sing from the heart? Truth!  God’s Truth and faithfulness in believing His Truth.  Learning to follow our leaders begins as children when we learn to obey our parents.  This comes hard for a child who is rebellious.

Once I disobeyed Mom when I was about 4 years old. She tried to punish me and I ran away from her.  She told me, “We will wait until your Dad comes home!”  I ran to the bathroom where Dad hung his leather strap and began punishing myself.  I don’t know how long I cried and continued to punish myself. I asked Mom to not tell Dad.  Obeying parents is difficult, but twice given punishment is even more difficult.

The children of Israel disobeyed God and didn’t follow His commands.  if my people who are called by my name become humble and pray, and look for me, and turn away from their evil ways, then I will hear them from heaven. I will forgive their sin and heal their land. 2 Chronicles 7:14.

The Presence of God is all around us. Jesus said to them, “Come, follow me, and I will make you a different kind of fishermen. You will bring in people, not fish.” Matthew 4:19.

Jesus answered, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. The only way to the Father is through me.  If you really knew me, you would know my Father too. But now you know the Father. You have seen him.”  John 14:6-7.  When you follow Jesus, you will know the truth, the life, and have a song in your heart that no one can silence or erase.

“Lord, when you set out from Seir and marched across the fields of Edom, the earth trembled, and the cloudy skies poured down rain. The mountains quaked in the presence of the Lord, the God of Mount Sinai – in the presence of the Lord, the God of Israel. Judges 5:4-5
