February 26, 2019 – Ephesians 6:1-2
Children, obey your parents because you belong to the Lord, for this is the right thing to do. “Honor your father and mother.” This is the first commandment with a promise. Ephesians 6:1-2.
The Apostle Paul writes these words, an echo from Exodus 20:12. Paul adds more we need to hear. We’re not waging war against enemies of flesh and blood alone. No, this fight is against tyrants, against authorities, against supernatural powers and demon princes that slither in the darkness of this world, and against wicked spiritual armies that lurk about in heavenly places. And this is why you need to be head-to-toe in the full armor of God: so you can resist during these evil days and be fully prepared to hold your ground. Ephesians 6:11-13.
How can we fight these enemies? Parents will teach us how to arm ourselves. The next few verses give us the weapons of war to fight our real enemies. Stand your ground, putting on the belt of truth and the body armor of God’s righteousness. For shoes, put on the peace coming from the Good News so that you will be fully prepared. In addition to all of these, hold up the shield of faith to stop the fiery arrows of the devil. Put on salvation as your helmet, and take the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God. Ephesians 6: 14-17.
Send out your light and your truth; let them guide me. Let them lead me to your holy mountain, to the place where you live. Psalm 43:3. In Romans 12:16 it is written, Live in harmony with each other. Don’t be too proud to enjoy the company of ordinary people. And don’t think you know it all!
If you honor your father and mother, “things will go well for you, and you will have a long life on the earth.” Ephesians 6: 3
