Changing World…

Happy Birthday to you!  How many times have you heard these words sung to you in your lifetime?  Each year contains memories etched into our minds, of growing older.  There are many “I remembers” in my mind of birthdays.  When I was three, I was selected as the one to blow out my little brother’s one birthday candle, as all he could do was spit.  Then there was the birthday celebrated in a sand pit in Oklahoma, in a high wind.  The homemade ice cream tasted a might crunchy.  We never celebrated there again.  Mother decided I would have a birthday party when I was twelve.  Fantastic refreshments, games, and gifts made it a real party.  Then at sixteen was The Year – when I could wear lipstick, date and drive a car.
But those memories were soon replaced with more important memories of other birthdays – of my husband, our four children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Each marked a place and a date in time.  Then came memories of loved ones who left this life.  These memories fade and others take their place, for Time is a record of Change.  Change hurts and reminds us of our brief time in this life.  An earlier memory made in time is also eternal.  I chose at the age of eight years to become a child of God and baptized into God, the Father, Jesus Christ, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
There is a past, a present and a future.  We don’t know the future, we soon forget the past. We live in the present.  When our brief time on earth is finished, we become someone’s memory for a time.  Is that all there is?
Our Lord God lives outside of time.  He is ageless and eternal.  He has all yesterdays, todays and tomorrows spread out before Him.  He knows how our story will begin and what choices we will make.  He knows just where He wants us to be born.  He knows the people He plans to place in our lives to teach us and love us.  He knows all the hardships and trials we will face.  He calms our fears and gives us peace.  He is the question and He is the answer to every difficulty and victory we experience in our lives.
Who is this God?  He is God of Eternity and Creator who created the extraordinary world out of nothing.  He created the vast universe and man with His words.  He lined the heavens with a blanket of stars and the moon.
God’s language is love. He shows this love as he gives each of us breath to live the story of our lives. His love shows in His tremendous glory all about us.  Before we were, He knew us and chose us.  During the trials we face on earth, He walks beside us and gives us His comfort.  When we are troubled, He gives us Peace.
How can I do anything but accept His will and His Way.  I accept ‘what is’ and trust Him to work it out for me. This can only happen when I believe God is and is my Comforter.
Everything I see and feel and touch and hear reminds me of God’s love.  I look at the clouds, the falling rain, the brilliant sun, the moonlit and star-studded night sky, the smile of a child, and the wrinkled weathered hand that holds mine – and I see God’s great love.
Do we know Jesus?  It begins with hearing, believing, trusting, loving, repenting, forgiving, caring. The confidence comes with knowing our home is with our forever love, Jesus.  The lyrics of Through it All says it for me…Through it all, through it all, I’ve learned to trust in Jesus.  I’ve learned to trust in God. Through it all, through it all, I’ve learned to depend upon His Word.
For when you see me, you are seeing the one who sent me. I have come as a light to shine in this dark world, so that all who put their trust in me will no longer remain in the dark.  John 12:45-46
-For the Lord God is our sun and our shield. He gives us grace and glory. The Lord will withhold no good thing from those who do what is right. O Lord of Heaven’s Armies, what joy for those who trust in you.  Psalm 84:11-12
-For you were buried with Christ when you were baptized. And with him you were raised to new life because you trusted the mighty power of God, who raised Christ from the dead. Colossians 2:12
_I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in him. Then you will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit.  Romans 15:13
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.  2 Corinthians 5:17
