July 20, 2016 – Proverbs 16:9
The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps. Proverbs 16:9There are many ways to plan. We like our life planned in five year segments with lofty goals. We desire to live a life that doesn’t change. We delude ourselves. Nothing stays the same.We have become a mobile society and a change of plans is made without qualms. What is the same? God’s love for us and his plans for us for a future and a hope. When I first read this, I thought in terms of the foreseeable ‘five years’. God’s plans reach much further than a limited number of years. The God who knew my name before the foundation of the world knows what is in the future long after I have ceased to be. He wants to give my children’s children a future and a hope. And those who come after…It is now, I will call upon the Lord, and come to Him humbly and pray. He will hear me. When I seek the Lord with all my heart, I will find Him. Whom I choose to follow now matters years and eons from now. Just as I draw strength from the faithfulness to God of my ancestors, I pray my children’s children will be strengthened in the same way.Exult in his holy name; rejoice, you who worship the Lord. Search for the Lord and for his strength; continually seek him. Remember the wonders he has performed, his miracles, and the rulings he has given. Psalm 105:3-5For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will hear you. You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart. Jeremiah 29:11-13
