May 6, 2016 – Psalm

The instructions of the Lord are perfect, reviving the soul. The decrees of the Lord are trustworthy, making wise the simple. The commandments of the Lord are right, bringing joy to the heart. The commands of the Lord are clear, giving insight for living. Reverence for the Lord is pure, lasting forever. The laws of the Lord are true; each one is fair. Psalm 19:7-9How do the words and decrees of the Lord make a difference in our lives?  These words are Thou Shalt, not If you don’t mind, would you?  God’s Words are commands, not suggestions.  Obeying His Word is a response and reveals just how much we really love Him.  It more than lip service to him, but obedience reaching down deep in our hearts.The writer of the Psalm tells us His Word is clear and gives an insight for living.  His words bring joy to our hearts.What does ‘reverence for the Lord‘ mean.  A friend, a successful teacher of children tries to teach her students that slinging the Bible onto the table is not reverence.  The Bible holds God’s Words, written that we might understand and know the Lord our God.  The first teacher is in the home.  Respect and honor belongs to the Lord and children are taught by what their parents behaviors and attitudes are.  Children are perceptive and know the false from sincere heart.A school teacher shook my world by telling us, a 5th grade class   — what you are now is what you will be when you are grown up.  I didn’t like what I was at the age of 10.  My Mom often quoted the following verse as her prayer.   Paraphrased – May the words I say and what I think about in my heart be pleasing to you!    Who is the You?  My Lord, my rock and the one who saves me from sin!
