December 11, 2019 – Luke 2:8-9
And in the same region, there were shepherds out in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And an angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were filled with great fear. Luke 2:8-9.
As the sun set on the day of Jesus’ birth, and the shepherds prepared for another night of caring for the flock of sheep in their care, they didn’t realize what was about to happen. Their whole world would change. And they would receive a most unlikely visitor from the heavens.
‘Fear Not!’ the Angel of the Lord called. The Shepherds were astonished. The appearance of the angel with the unusual message heightened their attention. Then a multitude of angels came praising God. The shepherds wanted to worship this baby, sent from God, immediately. The royal baby, Son of God, did not come to the dignitaries of the city. He lay in the manger of the stable, the shepherds found the baby and worshiped Him.
What did Mary do when shepherds from the field came to see her baby? But Mary treasured up all these things, pondering them in her heart. Luke 2:19. How often we ponder the workings of God in our lives, giving Him Glory and Praise!
And the angel said to them, “Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. And this will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in swaddling cloths and lying in a manger.” And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying, “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among those with whom he is pleased!” Luke 2:10-14.
