December 10, 2019 – Matthew 2:1-2

Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the east came to Jerusalem, saying, “Where is He who has been born king of the Jews? For we saw His star when it rose and have come to worship Him.” Matthew 2:1-2.

AFTER Jesus was born, the wise men came.  How did they know?  These wise men came to Jerusalem from the East. They saw His Star when it rose.  We don’t know if there were three wise men. The wise men were learned men and they knew the scripture, they read Micah 5:7.  For the Hebrew prophet, Micah also wrote,  But as for me, I will look to the Lord; I will wait for the God of my salvation; my God will hear me.  Micah 7:7.

Can you imagine seeing a star and wanting to worship because of what a Prophet wrote?  Not only did they memorize God’s Word through the prophets, they studied the stars, God’s ‘bulletin board.” The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims His handiwork.” Psalm 19:1

Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for Him;  fret not yourself over the one who prospers in his way, over the man who carries out evil devices!  Psalm 37:7.  Is this speaking of Herod and his evil devices to hold on to power?

Jesus the Savior came to earth and He is our Shepherd, and we shall not want!

When Herod the king heard this, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him; and assembling all the chief priests and scribes of the people, he inquired of them where the Christ was to be born. They told him, “In Bethlehem of Judea, for so it is written by the prophet: “‘And you, O Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are by no means least among the rulers of Judah; for from you shall come a ruler who will shepherd my people Israel.’” Matthew 2:3-6.
