August 12, 2015 – Colossians 1:11-12
We also pray that you will be strengthened with all his glorious power so you will have all the endurance and patience you need. May you be filled with joy, always thanking the Father. He has enabled you to share in the inheritance that belongs to his people, who live in the light. Colossians 1:11-12Thankfulness begets joy. It is the little things we can be thankful for that slip past there remembrance of giving thanks. We wait for the big things — such as the elusive winning publishing clearing house check. The once in a blue moon things. Then the little things to be thankful for escapes us.Being thankful wets the appetite for joy. I read an endearing story of a six year old boy who found the secret of joy. Both of his parents died in just a short time. He decided to give gifts to strangers to make himself happy and not mourn. His aunt helped buy tiny toys and he handed them out on the street and reaped joy, laughter, and reasons to be thankful. His goal is 30,000 ‘give-a-ways’.One of the blessings I think of often, is the feelings I had after my Mom died in 1998. Then our minister asked me to bring this couple who had no transportation a ride to church each Sunday. It didn’t take long until I found a new zip in my step and the tears were turned into joy.God gives us patience and encouragement when we love and give thanks for the little things. This helps us live in harmony with others. “By this it is evident who are the children of God, and who are the children of the devil: whoever does not practice righteousness is not of God, nor is the one who does not love his brother.” I John 3:10May God, who gives this patience and encouragement, help you live in complete harmony with each other, as is fitting for followers of Christ Jesus.
