February 19, 2019 – 2 Peter 3:8

But you must not forget this one thing, dear friends: A day is like a thousand years to the Lord, and a thousand years is like a day. 2 Peter 3:8.

In Psalm 90:4, we find this same thought – For You, a thousand years are as a passing day, as brief as a few night hours.  Methuselah (Genesis 5) lived 969 years, the longest any man on earth has lived.  

Now we consider anyone living 100 years, as very old. When Mother lived to be eighty years, she became impatient with living on this earth, and wanted to be with the Lord.  How old is our Lord God?  Revelation 10:6, tells us And sware by him that liveth for ever and ever, who created heaven, and the things that therein are, and the earth, and the things that therein are, and the sea, and the things which are therein, that there should be time no longer.  

Can you imagine, no more time?  Why are we waiting?  Psalm 27:13-14 says,  Yet I am confident I will see the Lord’s goodness while I am here in the land of the living. Wait patiently for the Lord. Be brave and courageous. Yes, wait patiently for the Lord.  Waiting indicates trusting God and knowing through faith how much He loves us.  He waits for us all to repent.  His gift of Grace, through Jesus Christ, is not something we can earn but becomes ours when we accept Him.  

The last verse of 2 Peter 3 makes the waiting purposeful and productive.  Rather, you must grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  All glory to Him, both now and forever! Amen.

The Lord isn’t really being slow about His promise, as some people think. No, He is being patient for your sake. He does not want anyone to be destroyed but wants everyone to repent. 2 Peter 3:9.
