February 22, 2019 – Psalm 91:1-2

Those who live in the shelter of the Most High will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty. This I declare about the Lord: He alone is my refuge, my place of safety; He is my God, and I trust Him. Psalm 91:1-2.

When storms of snow, freezing temperatures, and strong winds come, we search for shelter.  We purchase insurance for our lives, cars, and houses against the storms of life that find us.  Yet there are life storms still attack us.  Relationships with others ending in death, and separation hit us hard. Rejection of any kind comes, and we search for a shelter.

We look for help in trouble. Who can we trust?  Who will be our friend?  We long for a sure relationship, a safe shelter for our souls.  We search for Someone who is strong to be our comfort. Then I read the verses from Isaiah.  The lyrics of an old hymn by James Coats points me to the Lord.

Where could I go, oh where could I go? Seeking a refuge for my soul Needing a friend, to help me in the end, Where could I go, but to the Lord?  Hebrews 3:14 tells us the way. For if we are faithful to the end, trusting God just as firmly as when we first believed, we will share in all that belongs to Christ.

Who else has held the oceans in His hand? Who has measured off the heavens with His fingers?  Who else knows the weight of the earth or has weighed the mountains and hills on a scale?  Who is able to advise the Spirit of the Lord? Who knows enough to give Him advice or teach Him? Has the Lord ever needed anyone’s advice? Does He need instruction about what is good? Did someone teach Him what is right or show Him the path of justice? Isaiah 40:12-14.
