July 11, 2017 – Hebrews 11:1-2

Faith shows the reality of what we hope for; it is the evidence of things we cannot see. Through their faith, the people in days of old earned a good reputation. Hebrews 11:1-2

Can you name the things you cannot see, but you know it exists?  First thing I think about is wind.  We see the effects of wind but not the wind itself.  We cannot see gravity, or love, or gentleness or truth, yet we see the effects of all of these things, and we take these by faith.

So it is with Creation…spoken into being.  All we see about us, created by faith by our Lord.  Created by deliberate words from God, are we are created to live in a world made by Him. Jesus taught using creation as object lessons of miracles.  Jesus turned the water into wine, He calmed the seas, He healed the lame and the blind. He raised the dead to life.  Jesus did these miracles by faith in His Father.  Yet, there are those who lack the faith to believe in our Lord Jesus.

This morning I opened the front door to a scene, I held still, as I saw a sparrow very near on the sidewalk.  It did not move.  Soon, I saw a cardinal land on the bird feeder, and fly down to join the sparrow.  I thought the sparrow would move away, but opened his mouth instead.  The cardinal came closer to the sparrow and dropped one seed into its mouth.  The sparrow appeared to be chewing.  They flew away together.  I thought about the verse from Matthew 10:42 – “And if you give even a cup of cold water to one of the least of my followers, you will surely be rewarded.”  Amazing to see God’s love where we didn’t expect.

What we see about us does not come from anything that is seen.

By faith we understand that the entire universe was formed at God’s command, that what we now see did not come from anything that can be seen. Hebrews 11:3
