January 19, 2017 – 1 Corinthians 11:1,3
Faith shows the reality of what we hope for; it is the evidence of things we cannot see. By faith we understand that the entire universe was formed at God’s command, that what we now see did not come from anything that can be seen. Hebrews 11:1, 3Why do we enjoy fictitious stories man makes up? Yet not believe the realness of the power of God to make something of nothing just by speaking His powerful words? God made the world we walk on, and the water we swim in. He created animals and the universe with stars we cannot see.In Hebrews 11, are listed people who had faith – and believed – that God is. Enoch, Noah, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Moses, and many more believed. Many people died still believing, but not receiving. When we do not feel ‘at home’ in a land because believing in God and His Son Jesus is not the thing that is accepted, we are in the wrong place. We are longing for a heavenly homeland, this world is not our home. When we know in our hearts and can say, I am not ashamed of the Gospel for it is the power of God, (Romans 1:16), then God is not ashamed to be called our God. He is building a city for us a City of Hope and Love. The foundation and cornerstone is the love of Jesus for us all. Jesus loves me this I know! All these people died still believing what God had promised them. They did not receive what was promised, but they saw it all from a distance and welcomed it. They agreed that they were foreigners and nomads here on earth. Obviously people who say such things are looking forward to a country they can call their own. If they had longed for the country they came from, they could have gone back. But they were looking for a better place, a heavenly homeland. That is why God is not ashamed to be called their God, for he has prepared a city for them. Hebrews 11:13-16
