April 21, 2016 – I Kings 2:2-3

“I am going where everyone on earth must someday go. Take courage and be a man. Observe the requirements of the Lord your God, and follow all his ways. Keep the decrees, commands, regulations, and laws written in the Law of Moses so that you will be successful in all you do and wherever you go. I Kings 2:2-3This is a Father-Son true story about King David and his son, Solomon.  God has a plan for all of us.  King David, youngest son of Jesse was anointed by Samuel as God told him.  David watched his father’s sheep as a boy.  As a young man, David killed the giant, Goliath, with a rock in a sling shot.  Goliath was so big, the ground shook when he walked.  David had faith in God and God had plans for him.  When David sinned against God, he immediately repented because He loved Him.  He became the King after King Saul, instead of Saul’s son, Jonathan.  Jonathan was David’s best friend.  David also played beautiful music.God loved Solomon from the day he was born.  What kind of a father was King David to Solomon?  What did he teach him?  Did David teach him to play music?  Did he teach him to use a sling shot? Did David teach his son about God and his wonderful deeds?  Did David teach him to write Psalms? What did David teach his son about the wisdom of God?  God came to Solomon and asked what He could give him.  Solomon’s answer could have been treasure, a fast car, or the latest in fashion, but he asked God for wisdom.  When you read the book of Proverbs, you will read Wisdom!Did David tell him his dream of building a temple in Jerusalem to honor God?  Solomon became the king after David, his father and the most wise King in the world at that time.  Solomon built the temple where the Israelites worshiped God Almighty.  Solomon reigned for 45 years – from 976 to 931 BC, the golden age of Israel.  The reason you do things that honor God, are often learned from parents, as they live to honor God.So I am planning to build a Temple to honor the name of the Lord my God, just as he had instructed my father, David. For the Lord told him, ‘Your son, whom I will place on your throne, will build the Temple to honor my name.’ I Kings 5:5
