January 19, 2016 – Matthew 14:29-30

Matthew14-29-30So Peter went over the side of the boat and walked on the water toward Jesus. But when he saw the strong wind and the waves, he was terrified and began to sink. “Save me, Lord!” he shouted.  Matthew 14:29-30Are you like Peter?  And you ask, how hard can it be, when you try something?Peter is like most of us.  Trying different things in life, and then we begin to sink when we see find it difficult, or hesitate.  Peter saw a storm approaching with wind that made the waves like mountains.  He found out something we all must learn.  He found out that we need help.  We can’t do things in our own strength alone.I know a grown man, who learned this early in life — he KNEW that he needed help.  He relies on God and prays before he fixes his car, or the plumbing, or something electrical.  He knows to rely on God for the little things.  Now, God sustains him through the big things.God teaches us in little ways to rely on Him, so when the big things come, we know where to turn for help.  Peter cried out to Jesus as he sank into the water….”Save me, Lord!”  Peter knew where his help lay.  IN JESUS!  Some say Jesus is just a teacher.  He is much more than that.  He is our Savior, God’s One and Only Son, sent by God.  He endured the cross, He rose from the dead, the only one who did.  He begins our faith and makes it perfect.  He knew the joy that awaited Him when He returned to His Father God.He hears our prayers, He sent a Comforter to live in our hearts and teach us. He is our champion! He brings peace and joy.  We can count on Him always. We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith. Because of the joy awaiting him, he endured the cross, disregarding its shame. Now he is seated in the place of honor beside God’s throne. Hebrews 12:2
