January 20, 2016 – Matthew 11:28-30

Matthew11-28-30Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.” Matthew 11:28-30Have you been soul-deep weary?  Feeling burdened and there is no way out? Bowed down with the weight of the world on your neck?  Then you need only one thing — Jesus.Jesus says, “Come and I will give you rest.  Let me teach you.”  Was Jesus certified to teach by a state board of education?  His resume simply contains humble and gentle at heart.  His authority to teach comes from a much higher authority.  His Father in Heaven, the Eternal God.God the Father made it clear at the baptism of Jesus…how He trusted Jesus to obey Him.  After his baptism, as Jesus came up out of the water, the heavens were opened and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and settling on him.  And a voice from heaven said, “This is my dearly loved Son, who brings me great joy.”  Matthew 4:16-17.  “Where is your father?” they asked.  Jesus answered, “Since you don’t know who I am, you don’t know who my Father is. If you knew me, you would also know my Father.” John 8:19. When we begin to accept and follow Jesus in all we do, we begin to know our Heavenly Father and how much He loves us.  This love gives us hope and the joy of life, not just in this world, but for an eternity.  “My Father has entrusted everything to me. No one truly knows the Son except the Father, and no one truly knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.” Matthew 11:27
