Reflection on “Trusting!” March 5, 2024

One evening, Mom and I sat on the small back porch, and Mom told me she knelt and told the stars about her secrets and what she thought about the day. I thought about all the evenings when the stars came out to brighten our evenings. After she told me this memory, she said, “Let’s sit here and wait for the Evening Star to appear!”

He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds. He determines the number of the stars; He gives to all of them their names. Great is our Lord, and abundant in power; His understanding is beyond measure. Psalm 147:3-5. And with all His understanding, yet He loves you and me. When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which You have set in place, what is man that You are mindful of him, and the son of man that You care for him? Psalm 8:3-4.

Knowing this about God, that He chose us to be holy before the foundation of the world. There is much in His Word that we can learn that helps us know Him.

When we understand verses like John 1:3, we begin to know Him. All things were made through Him, and without Him was not anything made that was made.  What leads you to trust someone? Someone powerful? Gets things done? Is afraid of no one? Someone who is able. Now to Him Who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or thin according to the power at work within us, to Him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen. Ephesians 3:20-21.

One day as I visited my husband in Dementia Care, and I sang Jesus Loves Me This I Know. Tears came to my eyes…this children’s song was no longer just for children. Older people need these lyrics and a pathway to believing in Jesus, the One who died for our sins, that we might have salvation and forgiveness of our sins.

“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16. How much does God love us? Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places, even as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before Him. In love, He predestined us for adoption to Himself as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of His will, to the praise of His glorious grace, with which He has blessed us in the Beloved. Ephesians 1:3-6.

What is God’s Plan? It is to unite all things in Him, things in Heaven and things on the Earth.

What happens to us when we trust God the Father, Jesus the Son, and the Holy Spirit? Our Belief grows into Faith in Him, and we have a purpose in life. Which is a command! “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.” John 13:34-35.

Trusting God is a part of true and saving faith that looks to God to find peace, strength, contentment in all He has done, is doing and will do, now and forever in His Son, Jesus Christ!

How many times do we read “Do Not Fear” in the Bible? Being in turmoil and afraid is a weapon of Satan’s. Trusting in God brings Peace and an ongoing Hope.

When I read this verse, it became clear. There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not been perfected in love. We love because He first loved us. 1 John 4:18-19.

Words of Jesus: Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives, do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid. John 14:27.

Do we consider God’s teaching and will when we decide in our lives? Do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make straight your paths. Be not wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and turn away from evil. Proverbs 3:5-7.

Have you not known? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; His understanding is unsearchable. He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might, He increases strength. Isaiah 40:28-29.

Singing a song of praise to God touches the heart! The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? Psalm 27:1.

The faithfulness of our Lord God to provide for us knows no bounds or barriers when we trust in Him in the many areas of our lives.

But I have trusted in your steadfast love; my heart shall rejoice in your salvation. I will sing to the LORD, because He has dealt bountifully with me. Psalm 13:5-6.

When reading His Word, we begin to reflect His teaching to love others and become like bits of light, like stars, in a dark, weary world to lead others to Jesus.

Again, Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness but will have the light of life.” John 8:12.
