September 22, 2016 – Matthew 3:13-15

matthew3-13-15Then Jesus went from Galilee to the Jordan River to be baptized by John. But John tried to talk him out of it. “I am the one who needs to be baptized by you,” he said, “so why are you coming to me?” But Jesus said, “It should be done, for we must carry out all that God requires.” So John agreed to baptize him. Matthew 3:13-15God chose you and He chose me to worship Him and serve Him before He created the world.  We were made in the likeness of his image and He placed eternity in our hearts.  Jesus knew as God’s own Son, he was to do what was fitting to complete God’s plan for righteousness through baptism.  We have a purpose in this world, to accomplish the task God has given us.Even as Timothy was instructed by Apostle Paul – Timothy, guard what God has entrusted to you. Avoid godless, foolish discussions with those who oppose you with their so-called knowledge. I Timothy 6:20.  Apostle Paul trusted Timothy to teach people clearly the truth and the way, even as Timothy had been taught.  Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me. John 14:6.There is no other testimony more convincing than the voice from Heaven of the Spirit of God, saying – “This is my beloved Son who brings me great joy!”  God trusts us to guard His Word for the next generation, but can God trust us to be faithful and trustworthy with our minds, hearts and souls?  Life isn’t on the terms we make, but God has set an example of a holy life before us through His Son, Jesus.  Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me.  Matthew 16:24After his baptism, as Jesus came up out of the water, the heavens were opened and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and settling on him. And a voice from heaven said, “This is my dearly loved Son, who brings me great joy.” Matthew 3:16-17
