January 14, 2016 – Ephesians 6:1-3

Children, obey your parents because you belong to the Lord, for this is the right thing to do. “Honor your father and mother.” This is the first commandment with a promise: If you honor your father and mother, “things will go well for you, and you will have a long life on the earth.”Ephesians 6:1-3We always want to know why we should do something.  Obeying our father and mother is often very difficult.  Part of us says, but I want to….When we learn that we are sent to this earth to learn to obey.  Obeying and honoring your Father and Mother is  Obedience Lesson 101.  How else will we learn to obey God, unless we first learn to obey our parents.  Stomping our feet and having a tantrum is not an option.  We honor and obey our parents BECAUSE – we belong to the Lord.  This is the right thing to do.This is not a suggestion from God.  This is not an idea that would be nice.  This is not if I feel like it…it is so things will go well for you.  This is a promise from God Himself and God is faithful to keep his promises.  And you will have a long life on the earth.It takes humility to obey – the ability to think of ourselves less than we think of others – to obey.  It takes trust. It takes believing what God promises to have hope.  Knowing that we can let God lead us and helps us.No matter how hard the day is, and how many times you scrape your knee – we can trust that God.  We love him and He gives us hope every day.  Hold on to God’s Hand and we hold on to Hope.Let us hold tightly without wavering to the hope we affirm, for God can be trusted to keep his promise.
