September 10, 2019 – Psalm 42:1-3
As a deer pants for flowing streams, so pants my soul for you, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When shall I come and appear before God? My tears have been my food day and night, while they say to me all the day long, “Where is your God? Psalm 42:1-3.
How deep is your longing for God? This need cannot be quenched with springs of water, but is a soul-deep thirst for the One True God who LIVES.
From the moment we are born, and throughout our lives, we experience periods of physical hunger and thirst – both physically and spiritually. Happy are those who know the Source of satisfying our deepest thirst for our Creator. Our Lord God desires to fill us with true living water.
Who is it that overcomes the world except the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God? This is he who came by water and blood—Jesus Christ; not by the water only but by the water and the blood. And the Spirit is the one who testifies, because the Spirit is the truth. I John 5:5-6.
It is Jesus who taught this truth, “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.” Matthew 5:6.
By day the Lord commands his steadfast love, and at night His song is with me, a prayer to the God of my life. Why are you cast down, O my soul, and why are you in turmoil within me? Hope in God; for I shall again praise Him, my salvation and my God. Psalm 42:8, 11.
These things I remember, as I pour out my soul: how I would go with the throng and lead them in procession to the house of God with glad shouts and songs of praise, a multitude keeping festival. Psalm 42:4.
