October 5, 2020 – Hebrews 12:5-6
And have you forgotten the exhortation that addresses you as sons? “My son, do not regard lightly the discipline of the Lord, nor be weary when reproved by Him. For the Lord disciplines the one He loves and chastises every son whom He receives.” Hebrews 12:5-6.
Being a son or daughter means we live according to the teachings of our parents. We learn obedience. All of us try to escape punishment and think it is unfair. We accuse our parents of being unfair. I tried the biggest excuse, “Everyone else is doing it!”
Learning to obedience makes us beloved child of our parents, and ultimately, a Child of the King Lord Jesus. Our parents corrected us for a time as seemed good to them, but God only corrects us to our good so that we may share in His holiness. Hebrew 12:9. When we know whom we belong to, we know what to do.
Dear Lord God, teach me to live in peace and study your way in Your Word, that I may live an eternity with you! I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.
But to all who did receive Him, who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God. John 1:12. You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit and that your fruit should abide, so that whatever you ask the Father in my name, He may give it to you. These things I command you, so that you will love one another. John 15:16-17
Endure hardship as God’s discipline and rejoice that He is treating you as His children, for what child doesn’t experience discipline from a parent? But if you are not experiencing the correction that all true children receive, then it may be that you are not His children after all. Hebrews 12:7-8
