October 15, 2018 – John 4:13-14
Jesus replied, “Anyone who drinks this water will soon become thirsty again. But those who drink the water I give will never be thirsty again. It becomes a fresh, bubbling spring within them, giving them eternal life.” John 4:13-14.
Nothing satisfies like a glass of pure fresh water. Toting water bottles of various sizes and colors or plain, it doesn’t matter. Water’s life-giving status is well known.
And we thirst and re-thirst again for this water on earth. Jesus walked through Samaria, and came to Jacob’s Well and sat down. A Samaritan woman came and Jesus asked for a drink. Then she raised the race issue, pointing out, “You are a Jew, and I am a Samaritan. Why are you asking me for a drink?”
Jesus then spoke about the living water. “If you only knew the gift God has for you and who you are speaking to, you would ask me, and I would give you living water.” She pointed out He had no rope or bucket, and the well is deep. “Do you think you are greater than Jacob? We have enjoyed this water for years!”
He explained the water He gives, becomes a fresh, bubbling spring inside, brings eternal life. Jesus taught in Matthew 5:6 – Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, For they shall be filled.
Each time I pick up my cup and drink water, I will remember The Living Water of Jesus Christ. Will I answer as the Samaritan woman? Give me this water! When she said, I know the Messiah is coming, Jesus replies, ” “I who speak to you am He.”
Fill my cup, Lord, I lift it up, Lord. Come and quench this thirsting in my soul. (Lyrics)
“Please, sir,” the woman said, “give me this water! Then I’ll never be thirsty again, and I won’t have to come here to get water.” John 4:15
