Mother’s Day, 2007

Every year I am amazed at our four children and their creativity in remembering their Mother. Every one of our children are different with personalities that have blossomed in adulthood that constantly bless me.

From the time they were small, Mother’s Day was important. I received the usual cards made by sometimes dirty little hands, and every fingerprint was a print that spelled love. I have received books, flowers, a trip to Dairy Queen for the usual chocolate sundae with nuts on top, phone calls, emails, e-cards, a blog, and one year a set of books for Father’s/Mother’s Days that our daughter-in-law Karen bought from Discovery Books. She sent them weeks ahead of time to each of the kids, who took time to relate memories that each page evoked before they arrived here.

This year is no different, each gifting me in their own language of flowers – books – blogs – perfume, chocolates, and a variety of other languages. This year it is a tiny miniature rose bush, a gift card for Borders, a card with a dollar and a coupon for Dunkin’ Doughnuts, a blog and and an essay.

May other Mothers be as blessed with loving children as I am, for mothering is one career that never ends. It is a lifetime commitment. A commitment that brings laughter, joy, grey hair and a lifetime of fulfillment.

Thank you, Dan, Paul, Tim and Anna!
