May 21, 2018 – May 25:12-13
Who are those who fear the Lord? He will show them the path they should choose. They will live in prosperity, and their children will inherit the land. Psalm 25:12-13.
Everyone has experienced fear in one form or another of different things and different people. We fear the dark, for we do not know dark. We want to understand and see everything around us We need light about us. Jesus spoke to the people once more and said, “I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won’t have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life.” John 8:12.
Fear is a palpable feeling that puts us on edge. The verses causing me to consider fear as a barometer of how much I trust and love God. How much I do I really love His Son, Jesus is found in I John 4:16b-18. God is love, and all who live in love live in God, and God lives in them. And as we live in God, our love grows more perfect. So we will not be afraid on the day of judgment, but we can face him with confidence because we live like Jesus here in this world. Such love has no fear because perfect love expels all fear. If we are afraid, it is for fear of punishment, and this shows that we have not fully experienced his perfect love.
Seeing Jesus the Lord through the eyes of faith and trust gives us hope. His love teaches us to see His everlasting respect for Him in all parts of our lives. He is our Friend like no other.
The Lord is a friend to those who fear him. He teaches them his covenant. My eyes are always on the Lord, for he rescues me from the traps of my enemies. Psalm 25:14-15
