March 26, 2020 – Psalm 28:6-7
Blessed be the Lord! For He has heard the voice of my pleas for mercy. The Lord is my strength and my shield; in Him my heart trusts, and I am helped; my heart exults, and with my song I give thanks to him. Psalm 28:6-7.
King David’s view of God included his strength, his shield, someone David could trust. He saw God as his helper! God told Moses His name is, I Am. Our Lord God creates, saves His people, Lifter of Heads, feeds people, provides shelter, and covers us in the shelter of His wings. He leads, guides, and teaches us. God’s actions describe Him, even as what we do describes us.
Then came His Son, Jesus Christ. Like Father, like Son, The book of John tells the many times Jesus said, “I Am.” He said, I am the Light of the world; I am the Good Shepherd; I am the resurrection and the life; I am the Way, the Truth and the Life. No one comes to the Father except through me. John 14:6.
One of my favorite ‘I am’s’ is at the end of Matthew. And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” Matthew 28:18-20.
It is good to give thanks to the Lord, to sing praises to your name, O Most High; to declare Your steadfast love in the morning, and Your faithfulness by night. Psalm 92:1-2.
The Lord is the strength of His people; He is the saving refuge of His anointed. Oh, save your people and bless your heritage! Be their shepherd and carry them forever. Psalm 28:8-9.
