March 1, 2018 – Psalm 19:7-8
The instructions of the Lord are perfect, reviving the soul. The decrees of the Lord are trustworthy, making wise the simple. The commandments of the Lord are right, bringing joy to the heart. The commands of the Lord are clear, giving insight for living. Psalm 19:7-8.
Why do we find it difficult to follow instructions, decrees, or commandments? We want to feel that we are the ‘king’ of the mountain. I remember playing the game, of standing on the highest place on the school playground. This gave us stature. It was first played in the Garden of Eden, when Satan tempted Eve to disobey God. Yet, it isn’t a game.
Being tempted to disobey, first our parents, and then God, is known as Sin. In my generation disobedience was know as being cool, or Rad! Flaunting God’s Law is never a game. It is life or death,
What happens when we obey the Commandments and follow God’s Way? The blessings outweigh any label of ‘being cool’ with our peers. Obedience revives the soul, makes the simple wise, bring joy to the heart, and give insight for living.
What is pure and lasting? This is Reverence, known as respect, or high regard for someone. How often we know someone famous for a short while, but it doesn’t last forever. The way we think and act about God each day counts! For our reverence for our Lord God and obedience will reveal our humility before Him. We will obey the two greatest commandments of our Lord God – Jesus replied, “‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. A second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ Matthew 22:37-39
Reverence for the Lord is pure, lasting forever. The laws of the Lord are true; each one is fair. Psalm 19:9.
