June 11, 2020 – Romans 12:9-13

Let love be genuine. Abhor what is evil; hold fast to what is good. Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor. Do not be slothful in zeal, be fervent in spirit, serve the Lord. Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer. Contribute to the needs of the saints and seek to show hospitality. Romans 12:9-13.

What a beautiful picture love paints.  Temptations for evil come often. Jesus said, “Get behind me, Satan!” He knew where the evil comes from.  Abhor, stay away, from what is evil.  How is this possible when evil is all around us?  How can we be sure?  Reading God’s Word shows the difference.

In the last verse of this chapter gives us understanding. Recognize evil and overcome with good. Who is the author of good?  God himself!  Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. Romans 12:21.  Note all the verbs that show the good.  Love, rejoice, serve, being patient, and being constant in doing good.  Live peaceably with all.

Dearest Lord God, I pray that you give me the faith and trust to love others as You have taught me. Help me to live in harmony and in humility with others.  Give me the understanding and wisdom to hold on to your hand and wait for your guidance and teaching.  Help me to live each moment honoring your blessed Name. I pray in the Name of Jesus. Amen.

Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse them. Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep. Live in harmony with one another. Do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly. Never be wise in your own sight. Repay no one evil for evil, but give thought to do what is honorable in the sight of all. If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all. Romans 12:14-18.
