July 8, 2016 – 2 Peter 3:14-16

2Peter3-14-16Therefore, beloved, since you are waiting for these, be diligent to be found by him without spot or blemish, and at peace. And count the patience of our Lord as salvation, just as our beloved brother Paul also wrote to you according to the wisdom given him, as he does in all his letters when he speaks in them of these matters. There are some things in them that are hard to understand, which the ignorant and unstable twist to their own destruction, as they do the other Scriptures. 2 Peter 3:14-162 Peter 3 contains truths of God to either frighten us or make us long for the end of the age, the second coming of Jesus. The Lord isn’t really being slow about his promise, as some people think. No, he is being patient for your sake. He does not want anyone to be destroyed, but wants everyone to repent.  Verse 9.  The next two verses are a warning.  But the day of the Lord will come as unexpectedly as a thief. Then the heavens will pass away with a terrible noise, and the very elements themselves will disappear in fire, and the earth and everything on it will be found to deserve judgment. Since everything around us is going to be destroyed like this, what holy and godly lives you should live…   These verses tell us what manner of people we are to be to escape the fires of judgment. We are to live peaceful lives, pure and blameless in his sight both inwardly and outwardly!  We are to grow in the grace of the love of Jesus, as God gave us this gift of Love, Jesus. How often we are tempted to try to walk in our own wisdom and truth.  God is not who we try to make him.  Contentment in this life comes from trusting his leading and wisdom, not our own way.Hebrews 12:14 gives us God’s Way for our lives –Work at living in peace with everyone, and work at living a holy life, for those who are not holy will not see the Lord.

You therefore, beloved, knowing this beforehand, take care that you are not carried away with the error of lawless people and lose your own stability. But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the glory both now and to the day of eternity. Amen. 2 Peter 3:17-18
