I will not be shaken, for he is right beside me.
No wonder my heart is glad, and I rejoice.
My body rests in safety. Psalm 16:8-9
What a joy it is to feel at peace, at rest, secure. When our body feels secure we are able to relax and just be. But we are made to be more than just our physical body that tenses, ready for flight at any hint of danger. We are also spiritual. The spiritual part of our soul can be dulled to not understand danger. Or it can be free of tension when that part of us embraces the Great I AM. Life is easier when we focus on the Light of the World, the Melody of Life, the reason for being. Is it any wonder that Psalm 23 is embraced by many? This Psalm, a comfort at the end of life and every day of life, gives us the surety of faith and trust. The Lord is my shepherd; I have all that I need.He lets me rest in green meadows; he leads me beside peaceful streams. He renews my strength. He guides me along right paths, bringing honor to his name.Even when I walk through the darkest valley. I will not be afraid, for you are close beside me.Your rod and your staff protect and comfort me.You prepare a feast for me in the presence of my enemies. You honor me by anointing my head with oil. My cup overflows with blessings.Surely your goodness and unfailing love will pursue me all the days of my life, and I will live in the house of the Lord forever. We just celebrated the 4th of July…as I watched ‘the rockets red glare bursting in the air’, to honor our country, I wondered how much more should our hearts honor our Lord and the victory He promises to ‘live in the house of the Lord forever.’ How great a celebration there will be when Jesus comes again. There will be an unending chorus of angel voices, a feasting unending of light from the Light of the World. Truly, The Lord is My Shepherd and my soul is at peace this day.
