July 21, 2015 – Genesis 28:11-13

And he came to a certain place and stayed there that night, because the sun had set. Taking one of the stones of the place, he put it under his head and lay down in that place to sleep. And he dreamed, and behold, there was a ladder set up on the earth, and the top of it reached to heaven. And behold, the angels of God were ascending and descending on it! And behold, the Lord stood above it and said, “I am the Lord, the God of Abraham your father and the God of Isaac. The land on which you lie I will give to you and to your offspring. Genesis 28:11-13Have you ever had a dream and remembered it when you woke up?  And wondered if the dream was true.  There are scary dreams and happy dreams.  This dream was a ‘WOW’ dream that Jacob dreamed.Jacob was a young man and had traveled alone all day.  He was tired.  He pulled up a stone for a pillow. I know, you are thinking a stone is too hard to use as a pillow.  But he didn’t have a backpack like you do.  He used what he had.  He dreamed there was a ladder that reached up to Heaven.  That is a tall ladder.  He saw angels going up and down the ladder. Then Jacob heard the Lord God’s voice speaking to him.”I am going to give you and your family the land that you are lying on.  I am with you and I will keep you.  I will not leave you.”  When Jacob woke up, he knew that God had come to him in a dream and this place was filled with the wonder of the one true God.  This is the gate of heaven.This is the same promise God gives us when we love Him and accept His One and Only Son, Jesus as our Savior.  Jesus says in Matthew…”and lo, I am with you always.”  A promise, just as Jacob received, for each of us who follow Him.Behold, I am with you and will keep you wherever you go, and will bring you back to this land. For I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you.” Then Jacob awoke from his sleep and said, “Surely the Lord is in this place, and I did not know it.” And he was afraid and said, “How awesome is this place! This is none other than the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven.” Genesis 28:15-17
