The Lord is my light and my salvation—
so why should I be afraid?
The Lord is my fortress, protecting me from danger,
so why should I tremble?
When evil people come to devour me,
when my enemies and foes attack me,
they will stumble and fall.
Though a mighty army surrounds me,
my heart will not be afraid.
Even if I am attacked,
I will remain confident. Psalm 27:1-3From childhood, I knew the verse – God is Love! And sang the song, “Jesus loves me, this I know!” And yesterday I asked my dear husband, in the throes of dementia, which came first? Love or Light? He was unerring in his answer, Love came first because God created light on earth. God Is Light, God is Love, God is Truth.Indeed, when we walk with God, we walk in the light. Darkness is not in us. We walk in love which brings light and illuminates our walk with Him. Verses 2 and 3 create a picture of the blessing of God’s love and light. I do not have to fear but have confidence in his love. The song I sang at my dear husband’s ordination is one of my favorites…it begins, The Lord is my Light and my Salvation, Whom then shall I fear? But let us who live in the light be clearheaded, protected by the armor of faith and love, and wearing as our helmet the confidence of our salvation. For God chose to save us through our Lord Jesus Christ, not to pour out his anger on us. I Thessalonians 5:8-9
